It’s been six long years since Jon Stewart stepped down as host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, and since then, fans have been clamoring for his return to TV. It turns out they don’t have much longer to wait: Apple TV+ just released a new teaser trailer for Stewart’s new show The Problem With Jon Stewart and revealed it will make its debut on Sept. 30.
But what can we expect from the new show? Apple describes it as a “multi-season, single issue” series; each hourlong episode will be devoted to a single topic, including ones that are “currently part of the national conversation.” According to a press release about the series, it will feature Stewart “in discussion with the people who are impacted by the issue — as well as those who have a hand in creating the impact. Together, they will discuss tangible steps that can lead to a solutionary path forward.” After its premiere on Sept. 30, new episodes will be released to the streaming service every week.
The ProblemWith Jon Stewart will also have its own companion podcast, which premieres on Sept. 30 as well and will be available on Apple Podcasts and via RSS. The podcast will extend the conversation from each episode, featuring staff members from the show moderating interviews with activists and key players related to each week’s issue.
This is the first project in Stewart’s multi-year deal with Apple TV+. In addition to hosting the show, he will serve as executive producer through his Busboy Productions, alongside showrunner Brinda Adhikari and his longtime manager James Dixon. Richard Plepler also executive produces through EDEN Productions. Chelsea Devantez serves as head writer for the series, and Lorrie Baranek is supervising producer.
