Any suggestions on a pair of gloves that are both stylish and smartphone-compatible? All the ones I’ve seen seem a little geeky.
– Vince, Chicago, IL
Vince, I feel your pain — for a while I was using a pair of North Face ETip gloves1, which were great for running and casual wear but did leave a bit to be desired when I donned the three piece and topcoat. A little research turned up Dutch brand Mujjo, who, in addition to making stylish leather iPhone cases2, do an exceedingly dapper glove in leather and crocheted cotton3 that works swimmingly on my screens. Plus they’re cashmere-lined, which never hurts.

It’s cold. I wear hats. It messes up my hair. Can you help?
– Eric, Washington, DC
These are waters I’ve not had to navigate personally in many years, but shaved pate or no, I simply cannot abide earmuffs. In my opinion, you should sport your lid of choice (we offered several suggestions in our Fall Style Issue4), then use your hat hair as an excuse to buy a cool comb — I got our executive editor an aluminum one from Iron & Glory5 for Christmas. It has “Handsome Motherf*cker” engraved on the back. Seems to be doing the trick.
Thoughts on wearing leather jacket with a tie?
– Andrew, NY, NY
Couldn’t be more for it. Killer connubiality of rugged and refined, plus it’s warmer than a blazer. Just keep the look on the skinny side. My AllSaints Conroy jacket6 pairs as well with a slim white oxford (Bespoken does a great one with a rounded collar7 for extra punch) and black knit tie as it does an old t-shirt, and I can retain my go-to combo of black jeans from Mott & Bow8 and Paul Evans Chelsea boots9. And don’t be afraid to throw a vest in the mix — stole that move from Justin Timberlake and it’s been well-received every time.
