A new tech competition is offering $1 million to an inventor who creates an innovative solution to ensure women’s safety.
The contest’s goal is to curb domestic violence and sexual assault with a tool that inconspicuously connects women with a network of emergency responders in 90 seconds.
Anu and Naveen Jain, two Indian entrepreneurs, launched the Women’s Safety XPRIZE competition with the specific goal of creating a hidden solution since conspicuous attempts to call for help can often increase a woman’s danger in an attack. Instead of a cell phone, they imagine a solution creatively disguised as ordinary objects like a piece of jewelry or a button.
XPRIZE has partnered with Guardian Circle, a personalized database of emergency responders, for the software solution needed to answer alerts triggered by the device.
The prize will be awarded to the device that can trigger location-accurate responses, even in areas with poor connectivity, and cost less than $40. The device should be easily integrated with existing technology to ensure the most flexibility.
The deadline for submissions ends April 28th. Interested parties can learn more information and enter the competition on XPRIZE’s website.
