After years of civil war, the tourism business is booming in Sri Lanka. RealClearLife reported in October that the country will rake in $3.5 billion in 2016. With this in mind, we’ve got a sneak peek of one of Sri Lanka’s most exclusive resorts opening next year.

Located in the island nation’s southeast, the Wild Coast Tented Lodge is a pioneering wildlife refuge, on the edge of Yala National Park, that combines the comfort of a luxury hotel with the thrill of a backcountry safari. Made up of 28 cocoon-like tents, the suites have a spacious feel, boosted by soaring vaulted ceilings and panoramic views of the lush surrounding flora. Teak and canvas complement the contemporary design innovations, from freestanding handmade copper bathtubs to sumptuous four-poster beds.

A nature lover’s paradise, Wild Coast Tented Lodge offers its customers a number of action-packed excursions. Expert naturalist guides can be hired for tours to the farthest reaches of the nearby national park—where wild elephants, sloth bears, and Sri Lankan leopards roam free. Lectures and workshops, on topics ranging from wild elephants and bird watching to nature walks, offer insight into the fascinating natural surroundings.

Boasting an extra level of seclusion, four of the suites are beach-facing and come with private plunge pools. The rest of the lodges are clustered around waterholes to attract local wildlife for guests to enjoy from their decks. For families, there’s an eight-cocoon suite offered with smaller suites for children. The resort also has an open-air restaurant—framed by its swimming pool—where guests can enjoy creative menus of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. For those patrons interested in less of a formal sit-down meal, picnics and sundowner cocktails can be enjoyed from the nearby sand dunes.

Officially opening in October 2017, rates at Wild Coats Tented Lodge start at $924 per room per night (with a two-night minimum stay). More information can be found on the accommodations and rates here. View more renderings of the resort below.
