Since 1990, the annual Burning Man festival has made its home in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. This year, about 70,000 people are attending the festival, which includes music, art installations, and of course, various modes of outlandish and fancy dress. This year, there is an entire spot dedicated to a roller disco floor and many people wander around the site on decorated bikes.
The festival is well-known for the 10 principals that Burning Man attendees are encouraged to live by, writes The Telegraph.
However, this year, temperatures in the desert are expected to exceed 100 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, making it among the hottest years for the event ever, according to SF Gate. Festival-goers have already experienced extreme weather this week as high winds reaching up to 40 mph kicked up dust on Tuesday. Another dust storm is expected in the coming days.
The main road between Reno, Nevada and Burning Man has also been closed down due to a fast-growing wildfire, sparked by lightning, that has burned more than 30,000 acres of land, reports ABC News. Officials are worried that the fire might threaten the festival. The road is closed until further notice and the fire is not expected to be contained until Sept. 6.
