Alex Trebek may no longer be with us, but his legacy continues to grow. The ongoing process of finding his successor on Jeopardy! is one testament as to that. Another came on Friday at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, where Trebek won Outstanding Game Show Host.
This posthumous win wasn’t Trebek’s first time receiving the award; instead, it marked his eighth win in the category. An article at Consequence offers more details on Trebek’s award — overall, he was nominated 31 times in the category, setting a new record. Trebek’s 8 wins put him second to Bob Barker overall; Barker won the Outstanding Game Show Host Emmy 14 times over the course of his career.
Also receiving a posthumous Emmy Award at Friday’s ceremony was the late Larry King, who won in the category of Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host.
Trebek’s children Matt and Emily accepted the award on his behalf. Both spoke lovingly about his work on Jeopardy! “He was so fortunate that he was able to do what he loved and we know that he not once took it for granted,” Emily said. It’s one more outstanding achievement in a career that abounded with them.
