Cut From a Different Cloth: Remi Adeleke

Remi Adeleke has had quite the life journey: Nigeria to the Bronx to the Navy SEALS all the way to Hollywood and the silver screen. Has faced more hardship and obstacles than most men will ever know. And succeeded.

And when a guy like that talks, you listen.

“I want people to understand that there is a process.” says Adeleke, “And as long as you continue to work out that process with diligence and excellence and with discipline, you can achieve your goals.”

Sounds reasonable enough. And if it results in anything resembling Adeleke’s physique, we’re all for it. Below, some of the other life learnings he shared with us.

ON HOW HE SPENDS HIS SPARE TIME:

“Yeah, my weekend hobby is jumping out of planes. [laughs] What I love about it is that it keeps me thinking and helps me to process things. It’s a checklist that you have to follow, all the way to the ground. You can’t just jump out of the plane and check out. So it helps me slow down and to figure out what I need to do so that I can stay alive, and then I’m able to take those principles that I learn in the air and essentially apply them on the ground in my everyday life.”

ON FATHERHOOD:

“My kids are my peace, you know what I mean? And I know the potential that they have. My oldest son is a lot like me, mentally. You know, so I need to kind of massage him mentally [laughs], so to speak, so that those gifts that he has are used properly as he gets older. I look forward to seeing what they become and what they do in life. And whatever they want to do, I’m gonna stand behind them 100%, and just enjoy being the father to them that I never had.” 

Most assuredly, one does not transform into an Adeleke-esque adonis overnight. It is, in his words, a process.

ON LIVING WITHOUT LIMITS:

“I think there are a lot of people who put limits on themselves. They say, ‘Well, I can’t get to this point because of this or that.’ We are our only limits … Don’t make excuses. Don’t over-plan what you have to do. Just go out, come up with a plan and execute it.”

ON BEING PART OF JOCKEY’S #SHOWEM CAMPAIGN:

“What really attracted me to Jockey was this idea that I’m not just going to sell underwear, right? [laughs] I’m gonna be able to share my story in the process. And through that, who knows who’s gonna watch my story and be like, ‘Wow, like, I’ve gone through this and that and I can continue to be resilient,’ or ‘I can continue to persevere.’ Even if it’s just one person. Sometimes it’s about affecting that one person who will, in turn, eventually affect the masses.”
