Started by a born-and-bred Michigan entrepreneur, Detroit Denim cranks out hand-sewn, heritage denim wears that are, as they say, “extraordinary to its owner.”
Denim follows two rules: their jeans are entirely crafted via home-grown materials, and they sweat the details.
Thus: you get a darker white-line selvedge denim, with hand-hammered rivets, strong stitching, angled back pockets, and a Horween leather back patch, wrapped up in a semi-slim fit with a classic straight leg.
And the raw copper buttons — those were sourced from a military coat company that clothed soldiers in the Civil War.
The denim starts out raw, stiff, and dark. The character comes out later, as you inhabit them (but don’t wash them).
Besides the jeans, DD also sells a series of active wear, selvedge bags, hand-forged leather belts, and iPhone cases. Coming up: MacBook cases, grocery totes, credit card holders, and more, all forged with a “Detroit Denim” or “Handmade in Detroit” emblem.
