Jeans.
Excepting the acid wash interregnum of 1981-90, they’ve always been a symbol of rugged American values.
The trend this fall: colorful.
Below, what we’re buying to complement our traditional dark-hued denim (which never goes out of style).
There are blue jeans, and then there are blue jeans. Dip-dyed in indigo vats, the Ladbroke Grove line of denim doesn’t stray too far from the traditional, and pairs well with brown leather shoes.
Denim tip: When in doubt, buy a simple, one-tone dark wash.
Rising Sun Reliable Brown Stoker Wash
For the guy who likes chinos, but would like them a little more rugged. Very versatile. Goes well with a plaid button-down, light-colored henley or oatmeal sweatshirt.
Denim tip: No embroidery.
Patterns in jeans are now a thing. Start simple with this railroad-stripe slim fit, which pairs well with heritage gear (denim tops, woolly sweaters, workwear jackets). From our New York Editor: “For some reason, pants like this always look good when you wear a fisherman’s beanie. No idea why.” You heard it here, Zissou.
Denim tip: Wash infrequently; when you do wash, wash inside-out.
Burgundy is a good fall color and you can dress it up (think blazer and dress shoes). It pairs well with both browns and blacks.
Denim tip: Nobody should ever wear boot cut jeans. Period.
