The story of the Nike Air Max line goes something like this. Back in 1978, an aeronautical engineer by the name of Frank Rudy approached Nike with the intriguing concept of adding air to a shoe. Curious, designers created the Nike Tailwind with air in the midsole, though it wasn’t a visible bubble of air like it is today. Years later, the Air Max 1 made its debut after Tinker Hatfield, the father of Air Max, created a shoe with a visible Air window. And the rest, as they say, is history.
