Crosby Square: Classic dress shoes. Modern twist.

“It’s the most refined shoe ever. If this shoe had eyes, it’d wear a monocle.”

Welcome to Crosby Square, American makers of seriously refined footwear and deserved hyperbole, available now.

Crosby was once an iconic brand on these shores. Established in 1932, the company purposely evoked the footwear styles favored by our more sophisticated across-the-pond brethren.

Harry Truman was a fan.

Eventually, Woodstock happened and Crosby went away, blaming the country’s increasingly bohemian lifestyle (the brand’s history is a must-read).

Now, they’ve relaunched with 12 iconic styles in their first dedicated e-store. You’ll see some modern flourishes, but these shoes — handcrafted from pebbled patent leathers and soft suedes — maintain an old-school style.

Our favorites, with color commentary from InsideHook’s resident style editor:

Imperial

An Oxford crafted out of pebbled grain calf leather. “It takes something understated and gives it a swift kick in the pants.”

Diplomat

They of the aforementioned “monocle” comment. A double monk strap of burnished leather for dressing up or down.

Kensington

Situationally versatile calf leather Chelsea boots. “You could wear with a suit … or with jeans, kicking someone’s g**damn teeth out.”

Jermyn

A five-eyelet Oxford possessing a bit of stealth. “They’re cool … little Batmobiles for your feet. Don’t see black brogues often enough.”

Keep an eye out.
