Lunar New Year 2022, which kicks off February 1st, marks the Year of the Tiger, and high fashion has responded to the annual celebration with a flurry of striped, printed, and otherwise big cat-esque drops that should make any stylish individual purr with pleasure.
Gucci, Dolce&Gabbana, Versace and more all headline the variety of festive LNY releases, invoking both the traditional red and gold palette of the holiday and the lazy blues of this year’s water tiger zodiac. From conservations initiatives to five-figure timepieces to tees, there’s a myriad ways to rep your stripes. Browse the best LNY release below, and happy New Year!
Prada “Action In The Year Of The Tiger”
The Prada group has taken a different and applaudable approach to the holiday, introducing a trim-parte campaign involving a shoot with Chinese superstars Li Yifeng and Chun Xia, an “invitation to all talented under-30s at art schools in China as well as international ones, to produce their own personal interpretation of the tiger,” and a donation to Walking With Tiger and Leopard programme, a conversation effort to save the endangered Amur Tiger.
Ginori Tiger Squared Valet Tray
Italian design icon Ginori 1735 has been crafting beautiful home goods for hundreds of years (the company was notoriously founded in 1735, hence the name), and they mark the year of the tiger with an exquisite Valet Tray, complete with a white tiger operating in stark contrast to the mostly red porcelain tray.
Dolce & Gabbana NS1 Tiger Print Sneakers
Dolce & Gabbana took the “no such thing as too much” approach with their special-edition NS1 Sneakers, and we’re actually fans of the tiger on tiger look; it’s the right amount of maximalist fun in an often otherwise boring field. The futuristic kicks sport rubberized calfskin and premium nylon, are handmade in Italy and will surely stand out in a crowd.
Burberry Lunar New Year Collection
A choice was made. That choice was tigers. Just roll with it. Burberry goes all in on Lunar New Year with apparel and accessories drenched the iconic Burberry beige, with a printed predator on just about everything, from jacquard jumpers to silk short sleeves.
Salvatore Ferragamo Gancini Credit Card Holder
A decidedly subtle take on the festivity’s iconography, the Gancini wallet leans hard on the Lunar New Years’ colors and the classic Salvatore Ferragamo craftsmanship.
Nobis x Fete Chinoise Reversible Bucket Hat
However you wear it — stripe side or solid, subdued red — this Nobis reversible bucket is the best way to accessorize in the new year. Can you say party hat?
Dior and Kenny Scharf Capsule
Dior tapped American painter and graffiti artist Kenny Scharf for a dreamy cartoon tiger collection, and we can’t get enough. Scharf’s artwork is splashed across tees and knits alike. The whole thing reads art-school chic — very tasteful.
Arnold and Sons Perpetual Moon Year of the Tiger Timepiece
What makes a quality timepiece? An eye for design? Impeccably formatted mechanics? A larger-than-life price tag? We’d argue all three, and Arnold and Sons Perpetual Moon Year of the Tiger chronograph, limited to eight pieces, checks each box to perfection. The 42mm, 18k Red Gold-cased watch is engraved and burnished by hand, and it tracks not only the seconds, minutes and hours, but the moon phases via its mother-of-pearl disc with added Super-LumiNova.
Gucci Tiger Collared Sweatshirt
Gucci’s collection sticks with the Italian’s labels bold sartorial machinations; the red-and-blue-striped rugby feels preppy in its own right, with just enough feline intrigue to keep things interesting.
Blancpain Traditional Chinese Calendar Chronograph
A “new edition of the traditional Chinese calendar,” Swiss timepiece crafters Blancpain introduce a special-edition watch for the new lunar year. Beautifully engraved with a metallic cat, it’s perhaps the most luxurious way to celebrate the year of the tiger.
Jil Sanders Year Of The Tiger Project
There’s an understated elegance in Jil Sanders designs, and her incorporation of Lunar New Year-themed imagery continues that trend. Black and white serve as a stark base for gentle tiger prints on the likes of the Crewneck Sweater and Printed Blouson.
Saint Laurent In-Store Exclusives
YSL has cooked up a special year of the tiger capsule, only available in stores for those lucky enough to find themselves within range of a Saint Laurent flagship. The label’s premium basics receive the feline treatment, with a special appearance from a certain not-so-Pink Panther.
Versace Lunar New Year Tiger T-Shirt
Take this year’s zodiac sign and some Versace streetwear sensibility and you’ve got a pretty damn good combination. This special-edition cotton tee makes a fine addition to any wardrobe, regardless of what you’re celebrating.
