While you’re probably most familiar with Barbour for their ultra preppy waxed jackets, you might be surprised to learn that part of the brand (and its subsequent designs) is rooted in motorcycle style. In 1936, Duncan Barbour designed an all-in-one waxd suit for motorcyclists (like himself), thus creating the sub-brand Barbour International.
Gleaning inspiration from this particular part of the brand’s history, Barbour International has teamed up with Saturdays NYC to meld together their heritage with that of Saturdays’ heavily surf-inspired aesthetic. The resulting collection consists of pieces that find a balance between the two seemingly opposing styles. Included is a waxed jacket (of course), this one more clearly inspired by motorcyclists, featuring a belted waist, funnel collar and removable teddy fleece lining for added warmth (in the event you actually find yourself on a motorbike).
The rest of the collection primarily consists of tees, sweatshirts, a fleece pullover and accessories bearing either the Barbour International logo or a cartoonish hand throwing up a peace sign. They’re pieces they never lean too far toward either brand’s aesthetic, but strike a happy balance by remaining relatively simple.
