Tom Brady disputed Seth Wickersham’s Patriots story that was published last week, which detailed alleged fissures in the foundation of the longtime NFL dynasty. Wickersham wrote that there was tension between Brady, coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft, partially over New England’s trade of backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The deal sent Garoppolo to the 49ers in exchange for a second-round draft pick, which left Belichick “furious and demoralized” and some team staffers “stunned and confused,” but Brady was ebullient, according to Wickersham. But on WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan show, Brady disputed Wickersham’s account and said that “in 18 years, I’ve never celebrated when someone has been traded, been cut,” reports The Washington Post. He also said it was disappointing to hear that someone would write that because it is “so far from his beliefs.”
“All these guys I’ve worked with, I felt like I had such a great relationship with all the quarterbacks I’ve worked with. I kept in touch with basically everybody. So to characterize that as a certain way is just completely, completely wrong,” he said. Brady went on to say that “everyone has different truths,” which may mean that he and Belichick don’t always see eye-to-eye on things, writes The Post.
