Novak Djokovic Dominates Australian Open Final, Winning a Record Seventh Title

There is no doubt who is the best men’s singles tennis player in the world right now.

Novak Djokovic, currently the World’s top-ranked player, showed how much he deserves his number-one status on Sunday, with a thorough dismantling of World #2 Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open men’s final. The 31-year-old Serb dispatched the Spaniard in straight sets 6–3, 6–2, 6–3, in a match that barely lasted two hours. This Open final stood in stark contrast to the one from 2012, when Djokovic and Nadal dueled for a grueling 5 hours and 53 minutes, before the former finally won what is the longest Grand Slam final in history.

Djokovic has now been victorious at the past three Grand Slam events, making him the only male player to have won a trio of three consecutive major championships. This victory also pushed him past a tie with Pete Sampras to third on the all-time Grand Slam winners list with 15. He now trails only Nadal, who has 17 titles, and Federer with 20.
