As protests continued to occur throughout the country on Friday night over the death of George Floyd while under policy custody, Colin Kaepernick has pledged his support to protesters in need of financial assistance. Through his group, Know Your Rights Camp, Kaepernick will help provide legal aid to protesters in Minneapolis who need it.
The NFL quarterback posted on Twitter that his group started a fund to provide legal representation for protesters, asking followers to donate:

Kaepernick, of course, became a national talking point when he began kneeling during the national anthem before games to protest police brutality, so the cause of the Minneapolis protesters is near to his heart. He had previously expressed his support of the protests on Thursday in an Instagram post, decrying those who ask for “civility” in the face of revolution. The posted ended, simply, with a call to action: “We have the right to fight back!”
Floyd died on Monday after white policeman Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly ten minutes. Protests flared up after Chauvin was not charged; he was eventually charged with third-degree murder on Friday, a charge that protesters around the country asserted was not enough for the act.
