In November, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman said she was sexually abused by USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar when she was just 15-years-old. Nassar was recently sentenced to 60 years in prison for child pornography. He plead guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault. Since Raisman came forward, dozens of other patients, including Raisman’s teammates McKayla Maroney and Gabby Douglas, have come forward with similar allegations. In a new essay, Raisman said that the judge would not let her read a victim statement to Nassar in court, so she published it online. She wrote it because she wanted Nassar to know about the harm he inflicted. In the essay, she talks about how his abuse affected every aspect of her life and even made her “hate gymnastics for a time.”
