Ventana Campground. Oh. Oh wow.

Our beloved Indian Summer is nearing terminus.

The 48-hour forecast: high winds, heavy rain and possible flood damage.

Egads.

Decamp south one final time — and soon — to Ventana Camping, a recently opened luxury campground on 40 acres of Big Sur canyonland.

They’re open year-round and taking reservations now.

Each site — shaded by sky-scraping redwoods — features soft, level ground for your tent, a picnic table and a fire pit (note: they request you buy the wood from them).

You’ll have access to their restaurant and spa, and the campground’s not far from seven different parks, including Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, the Pfeiffer State Beach and the Coastal Ridge Trail.

This is where you’ll take in the 1,600 year-old redwoods — and hopefully spot a California condor and its ten-foot wingspan.

The sites follow the contours of the Post Creek, and there are bathhouses between the sites.

All the booking is handled on their website.

Before you go, your correspondent recommends you shoot over to the AETHER flagship in Hayes Valley.

They’ve got tons of camping gear, like this Kletterwerks flip pack, the Hozuki lantern from Snow Peak and the Gransfors hatchet. And their pima-soft henleys and toasty jackets will keep you warm and svelte.

Let the mountain-hopping begin.
