Upstate of Mind

The end-of-summer getaway. Grabbing a date and heading for parts unknown; the last hurrah before hanging up the shorts and docking the docksiders.

Looking at the calendar, it’s about that time.

Here’s where you need to do it, and the people you need to do it with: The Last Weekend, an upstate romp thrown by a syndicate of NYC artistes, featuring gourmet grub, live music and more summer camp activities than you can shake a dreamcatcher at.

Noted NYC artists Peter Coffin and Jon Santos take over bucolic Camp Lakota for the three-day extravaganza, and they’ve enlisted a roster of crafty friends to help design the camp’s programming.

You’ll be building furniture and indoor plant-boxes with a Brooklyn woodworking ace. Firing a bow-and-arrow at gonzo targets with a VICE photographer. Sprinting through misty woods with a documentary filmmaker.

Not to mention singing. Whilst intoxicated.

Three gourmet squares will be prepared from local ingredients by a duo of health-minded chefs, and enjoyed everywhere from the massive mess hall to serpentine outdoor community tables.

Friday night’s for live music, while Saturday night’s Grand Hollywood Babylon Ball will have all the camp’s crafters and costumers coming out of the woodwork (pun intended) to deck out guests for a night of foot-stompin’ revelry.

Talk about putting a cap on the season.
