When a man wears a woman’s shoes he’s either hopelessly fetishistic, or hopelessly RuPaul. Saving you from taking such drastic steps: Christian Louboutin, the world famous women’s footwear designer, who just opened his first-ever stateside boutique for men.
Nestled under the Highline in the West Village, this is only the second location to carry men’s Louboutin, who you may know as the Parisian maker of those sexy high heels with red soles — though if you didn’t know, that’s ok too, because men who know a lot about women’s shoes can’t be trusted.
That said, Louboutin’s men’s kicks can be your cheeky staple for formal and casually debauched occasions alike: the shop carries everything from calfskin tassel loafers, to gleaming steel-toed wingtips, to outrageously patterned sneakers covered in spikes.
All these kicks are arrayed on equally out-there shelving (metal-studded concentric rings, feathered cupolas) all beneath cinder block walls adorned with oil paintings of strapping pugilists.
Louboutin also offers tartan wool weekender bags, spiked iPad cases, and backpacks, plus one more first-ever perk: an upstairs “tattoo parlor,” where inked patrons will soon be able to have their skin art photographed and custom embroidered on their next pair of shoes.
