WATCH: Thoroughbreds
The late Anton Yelchin’s final film is a dark-as-night thriller/comedy in which a pair of blue-blooded Connecticut teenage girls (including the wonderful Anya Taylor-Joy, star of The Witch) hatch a murderous plot to off one of their stepfathers. (March 9)
STREAM: The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter
An outdoorsy comedy centered on a weekend adventure taken by famous hunter “Buck Ferguson” (Josh Brolin) and his estranged son, with Danny McBride along as a cameraman doing Danny McBride things. Directed and co-written by Jody Hill (Vice Principals, Eastbound & Down), so you know where the humor’s headed. (March 16, Netflix)

Steven Spielberg’s mainstream take on the geeky dystopian classic Ready Player One (out March 30) got you worried? Try this book instead. The ideas are similar: Classic video games, a young protagonist, evil government entity, etc. But here, the format is truly novel: it’s shaped by conversations between the teen hero and his missing father’s A.I program. (March 27)

BINGE: Trust
“You might remember how that family drama ended — murder, suicide and insanity.” Sold. Herein, the true story of the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III and the terrible response by his dysfunctionally rich family. Yes, this was also the genesis of the recent Ridley Scott film All the Money in the World that had Kevin Spacey removed post-haste. But this FX series, with Danny Boyle at the helm, seems more promising. (March 25)
PERUSE: The Opera
The magazine for “classic and contemporary nude photography” not only released its sixth issue — which is structured like an opera, in five acts (artsy!) — but it’s also taking preorders for a slipcover collection of the first five editions, featuring more than 1,000 photographs by over 150 photographers. (Out now)
And don’t forget … Isle of Dogs is Wes Anderson’s latest, precocious stop-motion tale (March 23) … Kaiju hijinks ensue in Pacific Rim: Uprising (March 23) … Zoey Deutch can no wrong, so Flower seems the perfect showcase for her acerbic wit (March 16) … If you can’t make it to this month’s SXSW, see a photographic history of the fest’s iconic concert series FADER FORT (Out now) … Speaking of which, someone just unearthed a previously unreleased Amy Winehouse demo … And finally, the welcome return of Atlanta (March 1), Marvel’s Jessica Jones (March 8), Love (March 9), Silicon Valley (March 25) and The Americans (March 28).
