As he’s demonstrated with contributions to hits from everyone to Robin Thicke to Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams adding a little bit of his talent to a track can go a long way in taking a tune to the top of the charts.
So, when Williams is willing to contribute drums, keyboards and “mumbles” the way he does on Beck’s new song, “Saw Lightning,” from the 48-year-old rocker’s forthcoming Hyperspace studio album, you know it’ll be catchy.
Written and produced by Beck and Williams, “Saw Lightning” is part of the new Beats by Dr. Dre Powerbeats Pro campaign.
While it isn’t going to put “Old Town Road” on notice, “Saw Lightning” does have some rap-rock elements which call back to Williams’ days fronting up N.E.R.D.
Though the album’s first single is out now, Hyperspace will be delivered from Capitol Records “at an as yet undetermined point in the space-time continuum.”
