Fourteen years after their 2007 collaboration Raising Sand was released — and 12 years after it swept all of the six Grammy categories it was nominated in — Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are once again teaming up for a new joint album.
Raise the Roof will be released on Nov. 19 via Rounder Records, and it sees the duo reuniting with producer T Bone Burnett. It features contributions from guitarists Marc Ribot, David Hidalgo (of Los Lobos), Bill Frisell and Buddy Miller; bassists Dennis Crouch and Viktor Krauss; pedal steel guitarist Russ Pahl and drummer Jay Bellerose, and most of the tracklist consists of cover songs. (Though there is one original, “High and Lonesome,” penned by Plant and Burnett.)
“We wanted it to move,” Krauss said in a statement about the record. “We brought other people in, other personalities within the band, and coming back together again in the studio brought a new intimacy to the harmonies.”
“You hear something and you go ‘Man, listen to that song, we got to sing that song!’” Plant added. “It’s a vacation, really — the perfect place to go that you least expected to find.”
The album includes covers of tracks by Randy Weeks, Calexico, the Everly Brothers, Allen Toussaint, Bert Jansch and more. You can check out the complete tracklist, along with first single “Can’t Let Go,” below.
