Fearing R. Kelly’s girlfriends were carrying out a “suicide pact,” police officers rushed to the singer’s apartment on Tuesday evening to conduct a wellness check.
But, upon arriving at Kelly’s Trump Tower condo, officers from the Chicago Police Department confirmed the incident was not taking place.
The CPD was responding to an anonymous call made to an emergency dispatcher stating Kelly’s girlfriend Azriel Clary and “four other women, who are victims of R. Kelly are planning to carry out a suicide pact at one of the condos at Trump Tower.”
Previously, one of Kelly’s alleged sexual assault victims, Lizzette Martinez, told PEOPLE Kelly had a suicide pact with the women living “in his house.”
“I had it bad but what I hear today is that he’s taking this to a whole other level and I’m so worried about the young women in the house,” Martinez said. “I hear there’s a plan in place. That he’s put it in place that if something goes down they’re all going to take pills and kill … I just can’t.”
Commenting about this latest incident, Kelly’s lawyer Steve Greenberg said: “It is offensive that anyone gives this any credibility.”
Kelly is charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse. He has pleaded not guilty and is out on bail.
In the R&B singer’s first interview since being charged with sexually abusing four females dating back to 1998, Kelly said his accusers are “lying” and that he’s being “assassinated.”
“I’ve been assassinated; I’ve been buried alive. But I’m alive,” he said. “You all don’t want to believe the truth.”
