Mick Jagger, frontman of the Rolling Stones, released two new solo songs prior to the band’s European tour.
According to Consequence of Sound, the rock legend said the songs — “England Lost” and “Gotta Get a Grip” — were written in response to “anxiety [and] unknowability of the changing political situation.”
“England Lost” is bluesier and has a fair bit of humor in it, according to Jagger. However, he said that the song also has a “sense of vulnerability of where we are as a country.” Meanwhile, “Gotta Get a Grip” is more upbeat and conveys the message that you have to “be yourself and attempt to create your own destiny,” no matter what else is happening in the world.
Jagger told Consequence of Sound that he personally is not politically optimistic.
Not only did Jagger release the songs, but he shared the official music videos and remixes for both as well. “Gotta Get a Grip” starts Jemima Kirke from HBO’s Girls.
Kevin Parker did the remix of “Gotta Get a Grip” and Skepta produced the “reimagined” version of “England Lost”.
