Meghan Trainor and Her Husband Poop Next to Each Other in Side-by-Side Toilets

The couple that shits together sticks together, apparently

Your spouse should be someone you feel comfortable saying or doing just about anything in front of, but that doesn’t mean there are some things that shouldn’t still be kept private. That’s not the case for singer Meghan Trainor and her husband Daryl Sabara, however. Trainor revealed on a recent episode of Nicole Byer’s Why Won’t You Date Me podcast that she and Sabara installed side-by-side toilets in their home so they can go to the bathroom while seated next to each other.

The subject came up when Trainor’s brother Ryan mentioned on the podcast that he wants to avoid a relationship like his sister and Sabara’s “at all costs” because they’re too close.

“You guys are weirdos, bro,” he said to her. “They poop together. She’s pooping and Daryl’s like, ‘I’m going to go hang out with you now!’”

Why, for the love of God, would anyone ever consider doing this? According to Trainor, the practice started because she doesn’t like going to the bathroom in public and feels more comfortable if her husband is there “blocking the door.”

She admitted, however, that things have escalated to the point where they’re now going to the bathroom in two side-by-side toilets they had installed — a practice she insists comes in handy now that they’re new parents.

“We just got a new house and we did construction — nobody knows this — but in our bathroom, there was one toilet,” she said. “A lot of times in the middle of the night when we’re with the baby, we gotta pee at the same time. So I was like, ‘Can we please have two toilets next to each other?’”

Am I to understand that Meghan Trainor, whose single “All About That Bass” was certified Diamond and sold over 11 million copies worldwide, cannot afford a residence with more than one bathroom? Two toilets in the same room is the only solution here? One of them can’t just hold it for a minute until the other one’s done?

Trainor wrapped up by saying the couple now has two toilets “sitting next to each other” and admitting that they use them together “often.” However, she claims that she and her husband have “only pooped together twice” because it “smells foul.”

Look, we’re not trying to kink-shame anyone here if this is some sort of weird sex thing for them, but twice is still too many times to have willingly pooped in front of your spouse. It’s totally reasonable to want to spend as much time together as possible, but you should be able to tear yourself away for a few minutes to go take a shit in private. (There was an entire Saturday Night Live sketch years ago about this very level of unhealthy attachment called “The Love Toilet.”) Sometimes you just need a few moments to yourself; that’s why men in particular spend so much time on the toilet.

Of course, love is weird and complicated, and everyone expresses theirs differently. Some couples take up shared hobbies; others purchase his-and-hers toilets so they can sit next to each other while they defecate. To each their own!
