Under normal circumstances, Lollapalooza would be kicking off in Chicago’s Grant Park this weekend, but like every other live music event for the foreseeable future, it was scrapped due to the pandemic. However, all is not lost: in lieu of a physical event, the festival has announced a massive four-night livestream happening this weekend featuring 150 performances and appearances.
The livestream, which will stream for free on YouTube beginning at 6 p.m. EST/5 p.m. CST on Thursday, July 30 and run through Sunday, Aug. 2, will include both new performances and appearances and archival footage from past Lollapaloozas. It will air “fan-favorite” archival sets from Paul McCartney, Metallica, The Cure, OutKast, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, Lorde, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tyler the Creator, Run the Jewels, ASAP Rocky, Chance the Rapper, Tenacious D, Cypress Hill, Jane’s Addiction, Alabama Shakes, Tove Lo, Portugal. the Man, Kehlani, LL Cool J, Princess Nokia, Polo G and more.
The event will also include the first Porno for Pyros reunion in 24 years, a David Bowie tribute with pianist Mike Garson and a message from Michelle Obama about her “When We All Vote” organization.
In addition to the performances, Lollapalooza founder and Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell will moderate conversations with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Public Enemy’s Chuck D and others. You can check out the complete livestream schedule here.
