It may be Short King Spring, but lest we forget that we are also deep into the season of the peen, Lil Nas X made sure his got its share of the Grammys spotlight last night. For months now, some of television’s buzziest dramas have been putting penises front and center — sometimes even giving them spoken dialogue. Onstage at the Grammys Sunday night, Lil Nas X brought the trend to live music, drawing attention to his penis through a series of not-so-subtle crotch grabs and suggestive microphone placement.
Performing with rapper Jack Harlow, the “Old Town Road” singer dropped his microphone to his crotch, swinging it around in a prominent display of faux genitalia. The rapper supplemented his microphone dick-slinging with plenty of suggestive crotch grabbing, to the extent that one viewer suggested making a viewing party drinking game of it.
“New drinking game: watch lil Nas’s #GRAMMYs performance and take a drink every time he grabs his dick,” the viewer tweeted. “Seriously what’s going on down there? Got an itch or he literally can’t keep his hands [off] it?“
While some celebrated this onstage display of penile prowess, others found the dick-grabbing a bit unnecessary. “I can’t watch @LilNasX grab his dick anymore on the #GRAMMYs It’s not going anywhere. Just stop!” one annoyed viewer tweeted.
But while Lil Nas X’s divisive crotch-centric performance may be coming amid an era of increased pop-culture penis visibility, he’s hardly the first celebrity to make a splash with crotch-heavy choreography. Elvis, of course, was well known for his provocative hip gyrations, while Michael Jackson was perhaps the king of aggressive onstage crotch grabbing.
Love it or hate it, Lil Nas X’s penis was the star of the show last night. While the rapper himself lost Song of the Year to Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open,” it seems he and his dick still managed to have a pretty good time.
“I’m either gonna win a Grammy, go to a club, get drunk and have sex with a random stranger or lose each Grammy, go to a club, get drunk, and have sex with a random stranger,” he tweeted. With that, may we all bring Lil Nas X’s shameless dick-grabbing energy into the week, armed with the knowledge that win or lose, at least we can always get drunk and have sex with a random stranger. As a non-famous person though, you may want to limit the actual public dick-grabbing. Not a great look.
