Criticizing the president has proven costly for some performers of late. But other artists, like former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters and Snoop Dogg, seem to unabashedly revel in their anti-Trump rhetoric.
Another one of those artists? Rapper Eminem, who easily eclipses the Waters or Snoop Dogg in terms of modern-era global record sales and popularity (he’s had 10 No. 1 albums, five No. 1 singles, and has sold a whopping 172 million albums worldwide). And during the 2016 presidential campaign, a month before the election, the Detroit rapper released an epic, biting, expletive-laden diss-track of then-candidate Donald Trump, entitled “Campaign Speech,” which put his political views on display for millions of fans.
Now, according to Billboard, the rapper has taken his anti-Trump vitriol across the Atlantic, at two separate festivals in England and Scotland.
Last week, wearing a shirt that said “FACK TRUMP,” Eminem told a festival audience in Glasgow, “I just want to take this moment right now to say m—r f—k Donald Trump!” That served as an intro to his song “White America,” which appeared on the bestselling album The Eminem Show. In a more performance at the Reading Festival in England, Eminem echoed his words in Glasgow by saying, “I don’t want to cause any controversy, so I won’t say no names … but this m—r f—r Donald Trump, I can’t stand.” (The crowd then started chanting “F— Donald Trump!”) He then got the crowd to do a call-and-response, where he said “F—!” and they said “Trump!” (Again, the clip below features language not suitable for an office environment.)
