Not long ago, David Crosby was interviewed by journalism students at Colorado’s Golden High School. Crosby’s default mode in interviews as of late has leaned towards the candid, and it turns out that’s the case regardless of who is asking him questions. As Variety noted in an article about his interview with the Golden High students, Crosby said that his touring days have come to an end.
In response to a question about whether or not he planned to tour again, he responded in the negative. “I’m not, because I’m 80. It’s because I’m old,” Crosby said. “Being on a bus tour is a daunting task. It’s very hard. It takes it out of you.” That doesn’t mean that he’s done playing live necessarily — as Variety points out, he recently joined Jason Isbell on stage.
Crosby addressed a wide variety of subjects in the interview, from his feud with Phoebe Bridgers (“Her music is actually pretty good, but breaking the guitar up is just stupid”) to his enjoyment of weed (“I’ve been doing it for about 50 years and I’m gonna do it as soon as I get done here”).
Perhaps his most candid comments came when he addressed the rate at which he’s been releasing albums. “I’ve been making records at a startling rate. I’ve made five albums in six, seven years. It’s an absurd rate to be cranking albums out,” Crosby told the class. “The reason being is that I’m gonna die. I mean, we all… everybody dies. I’m sure someone told you. And I want to crank out all the music I possibly can before I do.”
