There are so many good and affordable ways to listen to relatively high-quality audio today, from surprisingly powerful little bluetooth speakers to soundbars capable of incredibly lifelike imaging and huge soundstages. Not to mention systems like Sonos that are easily incorporated into multiple rooms.
For those of us who prefer a more traditional two-channel audio, there are, fortunately, just as many outstanding options at reasonable price points. And one of the most lauded options, the Audio Engine A5+ Wireless, is currently discounted by $120 at one of the internet’s best home audio shops, Audio Advice.
The A5+ is the brand’s most popular speaker in a line of very popular speakers, and for good reason. They’ve got a small footprint, they look really beautiful, and they sound amazing — arguably the best sound you can buy for $500. But discounted to $380 as they are here? We’re officially in no-brainer territory.
Aside from the really, really good sound you get with the A5+, you also get a robust set of features. They’re equipped with industry-standard aptX HD Bluetooth capability, for one, so you can easily stream audio from your phone, computer, or any other Bluetooth-enabled device, including the new crop of Bluetooth turntables out there. They’re also powered, meaning they include an internal amplifier, so you don’t need a bulky receiver to make them work.
The A5+ would play nicely in a range of systems, but we think it’s best for those of you looking to set up a simple but handsome and high-performance vinyl system for under $1,000. All you need is a turntable with a built-in preamp (of which there are many — we recommend the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC or the U-Turn Audio Orbit Plus), which you connect directly to the speakers, and you’re good to go. Get a load of this very sexy setup we just found on Instagram. What more could you need?
The catch with this deal? Well, it’s not really much of a catch at all, but this is an open-box item, which could mean any number of things — a customer return, an in-store display item — but you can rest assured everything will work and look exactly as it’s supposed to.
