Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of it. Today: The world’s games get an ACG-inspired makeover, Misfit Market introduces wine and Garmin’s updated inReach Mini 2 provides peace of mind.
Misfit Markets Wine
An online grocer that’s grown beyond “funny-looking fruit that’s still good” and into a full one-stop shop of healthy, sustainable and organic food (that’s affordable), Misfits just launched a wine shop. These are bundles of wine at prices starting at $35.99 for 3-bottles, with selections from both well-known and lesser-known varieties from everywhere from Sicily to South Africa. Besides affordability, most of these wines center on sustainable practices, low sulfites and/or or low winemaking intervention.
Babylon x Jackass Collection
Who better to design a collection celebrating the release of Jackass Forever than Babylon, the streetwear brand founded by two members of punk brand Trash Talk? The drop naturally includes plenty of T-shirts, featuring graphics like the Jackass crew’s signature skull and crutches logo and immediately recognizable “WARNING” disclaimer, but also some, dare we say, more grownup options, like a cardigan modeled after Johnny Knoxville’s own and some chinos (with skulls, of course).
Adidas FWD-02 Sport Earbuds
In partnership with Swedish headphone maker Zound, Adidas launches the running-friendly FWD-02 Sport earbuds with IPX5 waterproofing, force sensors to control media and up to 19 hours of battery life with the included case. Clever innovations include a mesh-top case to help the earbuds dry faster after a workout and Awareness Mode that allows ambient sounds to filter through so you can stay safe while training outdoors.
Osprey Transporter Carry-on
Lightweight, weatherproof and built for adventure, Osprey’s latest luggage piece employs a hardside shell, tough fabric and four wheels to help you dominate travel. The hybrid design meets sizing requirements for most major airlines, ensuring you don’t wind up cramming this thing in the overhead bin to the chagrin of other passengers. And don’t forget to pack a few extra souvenirs in the front pocket when space is otherwise sparse.
Glashuette Original Lady Serenade
Looking for that perfect Valentine’s Day gift? Happen to have some extra coin to throw around? Well then you’re in luck, because the Glashüette Lady Serenade watch, 36 mm and pretty in pink, was just released. Limited to 50 pieces worldwide, the dial is embedded with eight applied rose sapphire hearts.
Chord Mojo 2
Some of us still love headphones with cords (starting with the sound and also, no pairing issues). The Mojo 2 is a DAC/headphone amplifier that promises studio-level sounds and adjustable audio frequencies.. Interestingly, there is a way to make it wireless (you have to buy the brand’s Poly streaming module), but just think of this as a way for your desktop listening to vastly improve.
C4 Energy x Skittles
Looking for a way to ensure you throw up (in a cool, powerlifter way) at the gym? C4 x Skittles has you covered. We jest, but the pre-workout energy drink is no joke when it comes giving yourself a boost, with 200mg of caffeine and zero carbs or sugars.
Lobos 1707 Extra Añejo
The latest tequila release from LeBron James & Co. is aged three years in American white oak and finished Pedro Ximénez (PX) wine barrels using the solera method. A bit closer to a sherry-aged whisky, this is an extra-aged expression meant for sipping … and speaking of extra-aged, this edition of the Lakers is not gonna make the playoffs, so toast or drown your sorrows.
The Spice House ExactPacks
ExactPacks are exactly what they sound like; the perfect amount of spices for whatever themed dish you’re planning on preparing. No measuring, no muss — use an easy-tear blend of premium spices. How’s that for weeknight dinners?
Nike ACG Gaiadome FlyEase Boot
Nike’s newest disability-friendly tech, FlyEase, makes yet another appearance at the world’s games, dressed up cozy by ACG for a sturdy, podium-ready boot. The good? The kicks are easy-on, ultra-cool and tough as nails. The bad news? They’re for olympians only. Work on that double-flip corkscrew and get back to us.
Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Carbon Gold Tiger
We already discussed the best of this year’s Lunar New Year releases in the fashion world, but another gem showed up in our inbox this week that we couldn’t ignore: the Carbon Gold Tiger from Hublot. The Swiss watchmaker started with their barrel-shaped Spirit of Big Bang timepiece, but to invoke the Year of the Tiger they combined carbon fiber and 18-carat gold to form the case. Due to the nature of the mixing process, no two cases in this limited-edition run of 200 watches are the same.
Matador Droplet Stuff Sack
Small enough to fit on your keychain, Matador’s Droplet Stuff Sack expands at a moment’s notice to haul groceries, funky clothes or goodies. The water-resistant fabric contains your wet items or protects your valuables from moisture while a drawstring closure keeps items secure. Use the included silicone case to throw it on your backpack, gym bag or keychain for immediate accessibility.
Cowgirl Home+Office by Cale Yancey
Cowgirl Blue 1962 is one of our favorite small-scale retailers right now, and their Home+Office collection is a great example of why. Crafted in Los Angeles with Cale Yancey, the Incense Holder ($148) and Record Shelf ($2,000, yikes) are beautiful, carefully made with Baltic Birch and Maple Veneer, and statement pieces for any apartment. Might want to stay away from that record shelf if you have more than, say 40 records, but who are we make assumptions about your finances.
Crocs x Carrots “Soil and Carrots” Collection
Freshly announced, Crocs x Carrots is back with a “Soil and Carrots” apparel collections. Details are scant, but you can expect co-branded apparel in typical streetwear fashion, and perhaps even another round of a Carrot’s-themed Croc.
Octomore Ten Aged Years
We always call the time of year (fall) when the annual Octomore expressions get released the best time for Scotch drinkers, but here’s an early 2022 surprise; a new edition of Bruichladdich’s super-peaty whisky, this one aged much longer and splitting its time maturing in first fill ex-American oak casks and then wine barriques from Spain. Only available at the distillery or online.
Arvin Goods
Created to redefine what makes a really good sock, Seattle-based Arvin Goods combines an efficient manufacturing process with recycled or discarded fabric scraps to produce comfy, stylish socks on behalf of the planet. The newcomer’s operation requires almost zero water and no harmful chemicals or dyes, both rare feats in the textile industry. After testing multiple pairs in recent weeks, our gear editor is quickly looking to add more colors and styles to his sock drawer.
IKEA Världsklok Plant-Based Meat
Behold, IKEA’s own plant-based meat for making your own plant-based IKEA meatballs. Specifically, the furniture brand’s foray into climate-friendly eating is made of pea protein and acts like ground beef, so you can shape the Världsklok “plant mince” into anything (burgers come to mind) or simply toss it in a sauce. It’s only available in-store at launch.
Garmin inReach Mini 2
Garmin’s compact satellite communicator receives its first upgrade in years for off-the-grid peace of mind no matter where the adventure takes you. Featuring two-way messaging, SOS alerts, location sharing, a digital compass and so much more, this rugged little device works where smartphones don’t. Expand its capabilities by downloading the Garmin Explore app for navigation, waypoints, courses, activities and collections, or simply use it to tell your mom you miss her.
Weatherman The Collapsible Umbrella in Cobalt
Weatherman makes a damn fine umbrella — so fine, in fact, that on a scale of “snap inside out” to “drift away, Mary Poppins style”, we’d put the odds on mankind’s first umbrella-powered flight. After all, industrial-strength fiberglass, water-repellent fabric and a vented canopies that can withstand winds up to 55 mph means this thing ain’t gonna break.
Five Husbands Vodka
Ogden’s Own, the largest independent distillery in Utah, releases a new label every year for its vodka, which is “specifically devoted to supporting and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.” And there’s a casting call for getting on that label, no longer limited to Utah but now nationwide. You can find details here. Qualified Husbands can submit their story and information to info@ogdensown.com before February 14th to be considered.
Made In Dutch Oven
There are a few reasons to take a chance on Made In’s new enameled cast iron Dutch oven even though you have countless other options. As we wrote this week, it’s made in France but more affordable than the most famous French-made brands, it’s the perfect size at 5.5 quarts, and it has a few nice design flourishes like those self-basting bumps on the underside of the lid.
Jeeter x Highsman Collection
Record-breaking NFL running back Ricky Williams’s lifestyle brand and Jeeter are teaming up for a limited-edition apparel collaboration just in time for Super Bowl LVI. We’re digging the laid-back varsity vibes.
