Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: a collection of Parachute bags, a box of red wine and Cheez-Its, and an Adidas Skateboarding collab with the Beastie Boys.
John Elliott Game Shorts
One of our editors saw these shorts via an Instagram ad earlier this week and fell in love at first sight. Then he clicked on the link and learned they were $250, at which point he just as quickly fell out of love. But if you can afford them, buy them. And then wear them to a music festival, where you will get lots of adoring comments from 21-year-old dudes in crew socks and lacrosse pennies.
Off-White Arrows Suitcase
Finally you too can travel like a hypebeast, thanks to Off-White’s latest release of three new travel suitcases. Made from hardside polycarbonate, these carry-ons feature the brand’s signature “ARROWS” motif at the front, followed by “FOR TRAVEL” at the back in large embossed letters. Apparently hypebeasts need to be told what suitcases are for; forgive them.
Ollech & Wajs Watches
If you, like our contributor, have been searching for the perfect tool watch, another avenue just opened (or rather, reopened). Ollech & Wajs is a well-respected Zurich-based mechanical watchmaker that dates back to 1956. This week, the brand relaunched under new ownership with two timepieces: the OW P-101 and OW P-104, both limited to 56 pieces and available to order now.
Geoff McFetridge x Warby Parker
Affordable eyewear brand Warby Parker has teamed up with Los Angeles Graphic Designer Geoff McFetridge to create two pairs of oversized, limited-edition sunglasses, inspired by vintage frames owned by McFetridge. The pairs are both named after places McFetridge has resided — Edgemont, his hometown in Canada and Atwater, his L.A. studio’s neighborhood. So yeah, maybe a little self-involved. That said, Warby Parker is making a donation to urban design non-profit LA-Más, an L.A. group that helps underserved communities through policy and architecture, so we’ll let it slide.
Buck Mason Double Weave SS Vintage Two Pocket Shirt
Buck Mason milled two pieces of cotton fabric together to make this classic mechanic’s shirt. That’s double the smooth, easy-breathing, insulating fabric in one short-sleeve whole. So now you can accomplish double the work! Just kidding, you can still be mediocre at your job while wearing this shirt.
House Wine x Cheez-It
Yes, this is the best product to have been dropped this week, and perhaps of our lifetimes. House Wine and Cheez-Its are giving us the combo of our dreams: a box of red wine accompanied by a delicious gourmet snack made with “100% real cheese” (it says it right there on the box!). Unfortunately, these boxes sold out in less than a day, but House Wine has assured us they have more pairings on the way. In the meantime, they’ve made a helpful guide that will ensure you don’t look like a complete idiot the next time you bring wine and Cheez-Its to a party. As you do.
Pelican Dayventure Sling Cooler
A water-resistant and incredibly durable over-the-shoulder cooler you can throw over your shoulder and take just about anywhere you’re legally allowed. It features an accessible wide top opening and can fit four wine bottles, 12 cans or 8.5 liters of whatever you want. Plus: a side pocket for additional dry storage.
Basil Hayden’s Caribbean Reserve Rye Whisky
A blend of 8-year-old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey and 4-year-old Canadian Rye Whisky, finished with the addition of Black Strap Rum. It’s notes of toasted oak, spice and vanilla, now bolstered by hints of brown sugar and molasses. Works great in a punch.
Callaway Golf Epic Forged Irons
Callaway opted to go very literal with their new — and most premium — set of irons. The “Epic Forged” collection layers a tungsten core underneath carbon steel and every jargon-y technology in Callaway’s bag, from their razor-thin “360 Face Cup” to a layer of “urethane microspheres” that are intended to decrease vibration at impact. Early reviews suggest they kick ass, and they’re priced accordingly, at $300 per club. They come out August 2.
Beastie Boys x Adidas Skateboarding
While we’re at the office working 9-to-5, the Beastie Boys are not at the Garden, but with Adidas, cold kickin’ it live. Adidas’ skate and style division has teamed up with Mike D and Ad-Rock to commemorate their seminal album Paul’s Boutique, which turns 30 on July 25, with a pair of Americana kicks. The sneakers will only be available at select skate shops in North America, along with the Beyond The Streets exhibition gift shop in Williamsburg. But with only 500 pairs available, you might have to fight for your right to own a pair.
Killspencer Parachute Collection
This collection of backpacks, duffel bags, totes and more is made from repurposed U.S. Air Force Issue Pilot Parachutes taken from Air Force parachute systems and ejection seats. The material is lightweight, tear-resistant, collapsible and has saved an abundance of people who jumped out of planes, so it sounds pretty reliable.
Best Made Annual Cast Iron Event
The heritage-inspired brand Best Made is offering one-of-a-kind, restored vintage cast-iron cookware during their Annual Cast Iron Event. Not only will you likely never have to buy a set of cookware again, but they also make for great weapons in case of a home invasion by rogue cartoon characters.
SeaVees x Surf Lodge Collaboration
The OG casual sneaker company has collaborated with one of East Hampton’s ultimate summer destinations, the Surf Lodge of Montauk, to bring us special edition versions of SeaVees’ iconic sneaker.
The Rhake: WX
A fresh take on a Mission Workshop staple, the Rhake WX is the waxed-canvas version of the brand’s best-selling backpack. With purposeful pockets designed to hold a tablet, laptop, power chargers, keys, sunglasses, and water bottle, Rhake WX features two layers of weatherproof construction to keep all your gear dry and toasty.
