“A huntin’, fishin’, and lovin’ every day / That’s the prayer that a country boy prays.”
Luke Bryan had a #2 hit with “Huntin’, Fishin,’ and Lovin’ Every Day” back in 2016; turns out that track nicely sums up the singer’s rural Georgia lifestyle.
“That song is accurate,” Bryan tells InsideHook. “Besides music, I enjoy hunting and fishing. They’re my favorite things to do and I love bringing my boys up the way I grew up. Those trips with my dad are some of the best memories I have as a child.”
Now Bryan — who just released the new album Born Here Live Here Die Here (which debuted in Billboard’s top 5) — wants to share his love of the outdoors with everybody via a new Amazon storefront, which, naturally, is full of fishing, camping and hunting-focused products.
We walked through a few of Bryan’s favorites, a wide range of gear that should appeal to anyone who likes to spend time outside, no matter what your preferred activity.
Two people who might not take up Bryan’s suggestions? The singer’s American Idol co-hosts Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, who apparently are not likely to spend their downtime in a tent. “I think the only camping Katy would do is ‘glamping’ and I don’t believe the idea of no plumbing and no running water would suit Lionel,” admits Bryan.
For hunting: Vortex Optics Diamondback HD Binoculars
The 10x magnification here gets you bright, clear and color-accurate images, and they’re certainly rugged. And a necessity. “These are important to use because it makes it possible to see better, and that makes everything safer,” says Bryan.
For fishing: Redington Fly Fishing Combo Kit
An easy-to-cast, easier-to-set-up, medium-fast action graphite fly rod that’s ideal for beginners. “My boys and I used this over the summer,” says the singer. “We crossed off some ‘bucket list’ places to fish that I wondered if we’d ever be able to do because life gets so busy. That’s been a silver lining for my family during the pandemic.”
For surviving the elements: Helikon-Tex Tactical Pants
Stretchy, moisture-wicking and full of pockets. Says Bryan: “I love these tactical pants because they have all the right storage and they’re also breathable and lightweight.”
For camping: Core 9-Person Extended Dome Tent
Bring the family. The whole family, as this’ll fit three queen mattresses; plus, there’s a place to hang a lantern and plenty of pockets to keep stuff off the ground. As Bryan remembers: “I grew up sleeping in a Coleman sleeping bag, but a Coleman bag inside of a Core dome tent is perfection.”
For storage: Igloo BMX Family
It’ll retain ice for up to five days in summer heat, and can hold up to 83 12-ounce cans. Or other things. Claims Bryan: “Really, any of Igloo’s coolers, to store all those fish!”
