Right now, as you sit at your desk and peel back the Tupperware top on your sad lunch and browse this website, summer-vacationing teenagers are probably trespassing on your property in search of rogue Pokémon.
What can you do about this? Well, at the very least, you should be keeping an eye on them, a task that just got a lot easier thanks to Nest’s first outdoor security system.
Rain or shine, the handsome, compact camera records a 130-degree field view in 1080p — and even has eight infrared LEDs for night vision.
Using it along with the Nest Aware subscription app, you’ll be notified of intruders and possible danger on your smartphone, no matter where you are. And the built-in speakers and mic let you can communicate with whoever is at the door — say, a delivery man or pesky Pokémaster — whether you’re at home, the office or on the go.
The minimalist design is attractive and functional, and while Nest has a team of pros ready to install the camera for you, it’s simple enough to do yourself. There’s no need to drill through walls, just connect the cables — with their combined length of 7.5m — to an outdoor power source and it’s ready to go.
The only downside to Nest’s easy-to-use, plug-in style rig? If the power goes out, your security is going with it. And the lack of on-board storage means if your wifi connection cuts out, so does Nest.
You can preorder it now for $199 for expected shipment this fall.
Gotta catch ’em all.
