Priced at just $49.95 and cute as a button, the USB Kill 2.0 is a clever little USB stick that, quite simply, fries the living s**t out of any computer with a USB port — or any other USB-enabled device you care to destroy.
It can also be used to test these devices’ resiliance in case of a power surge, but where’s the fun in that?
This video (which, curiously, appears as though it were created by a robot) outlines the details.
As the company website puts it, “Almost all consumer-level hardware fails when tested against the USB Kill. The most frequent outcome is the complete destruction of the device (laptops, tv, telephones, etc).”
It works by using the device’s own power against it — collecting juice through the USB power lines, storing it up for a few milliseconds and discharging it back through the data lines. BOOM. It’s judo, and machines are seemingly powerless against it.
