Earlier this year, Girl Scouts announced a new cookie, the Raspberry Rally, to great fanfare. The crispy raspberry-flavored cookie is dipped in chocolate and kind of has Thin Mint vibes, texture-wise. People are so into it that it’s now sold out, and people lucky enough to snag a box are selling them for a profit on eBay.
“Girl Scouts of the USA is disappointed to see unauthorized resales of Girl Scout cookies online through third-party e-commerce platforms,” a spokesperson for the organization shared in a statement to Today. “While we are happy that there’s such a strong demand for our cookies year-over-year, we’re saddened that the platforms and the sellers are disregarding the core mission of the cookie program and are looking to make a profit off of the name without supporting our mission and the largest girl-led entrepreneurship program in the world.”
Maybe Don’t Harass the Girl Scouts?
Cookie-selling Scouts endure verbal abuse from adults over everything from cookie prices to Planned Parenthood conspiracy theoriesIt’s not even the Girl Scouts’ fault that they didn’t have enough boxes of Raspberry Rallys to go around. In a January statement, they foresaw cookie production issues, as global food supply shortages continue to be an issue. But even so, it’s kind of a dick move to sell boxes of $5 cookies for such a massive profit, especially because the Girl Scouts organization is actually a good one that teaches young ladies about business and entrepreneurship through the cookie program. I guess they’re learning young that the internet is ruthless and people will do anything to make a buck.
