The worst thing about the World Cup — the most widely celebrated event in the entire sporting world, along with the Olympics — is that it only comes once every four years.

Kezar Pub

An SF football institution owned by a staunch Liverpool supporter, Kezar has been a scouser hangout for as long as anyone can remember but plays convivial host to European soccer fans of every stripe with a friendly, blue-collar vibe, killer wings and no shortage of either screens or taps. Being that SF’s Liverpool Supporter’s Club alone boasts over 500 members, it’s a safe bet that this’ll be ground zero for World Cup action.

Founded by vets of both Kezar and Corner Store, SFAC sports a charmingly vintage leather-and-wood vibe (imagine drinking in a handsome high school gym from 1950), bleachers for big games, a menu that’s impressive on both the food and drink front, and (shocker) screens galore. No word on if they’re planning to run back their 2018 World Cup policy of showing every single game live, but at a bare minimum you’ll be able to catch the US action with fellow fans and a bathtub full of beer.

Mad Dog in the Fog
Upper Haight
The sister pub of Kezar (noticing a theme here?), this colorfully named Upper Haight haunt boasts an equally rabid football fanbase (it’s not uncommon to find it full for a 5 a.m. weekend game) as well as over 150 rotating beers, a sunny patio to enjoy them on, and a quality English breakfast for those morning matches. Grab a group and ask for one of the big booths.

Speaking of patios, Valley Tavern boasts a sprawling multi-level number complete with a grill and six TVs (in addition to their 17 inside) for outdoor viewing. Add an impressive 39 beers on tap and a damn tasty Sriracha bloody mary and you’d be a fool to watch the game anywhere else if the sun is shining.

Old-World Bavarian charm in this venerable beer hall that’s been serving vintage steins full of suds and hearty German fare for over 120 years.
