The worst thing about the World Cup — the most widely celebrated event in the entire sporting world, along with the Olympics — is that it only comes once every four years.

Luckily, there are two of them. And the one that the U.S. actually has a chance of winning returns this summer.

We’re talking about the 2019 Women’s World Cup, which will take place in stadiums around France from June 7th-July 7th.

Below, find our picks for the best pubs around Los Angeles for taking in a game with some properly festive ambience, which we’ve put together with some help from our friends at TAG Heuer, the official watch and timekeeper of the U.S. Women’s National Team.

And for a primer on the tournament at large (and specifically on the ladies who will be representing the Stars and Stripes), be sure to check out our layman’s guide to the Cup.

Wirtshaus

Mid-City

A relaxed and friendly biergarten proffering hefty steins of over 35 German brews, very solid authentic lebensmittel (see: food) from schnitzels to wursts to traditional “bretzels,” and a massive dog-friendly patio for lounging. Oh, and a ping-pong table for any breaks in the World Cup action. If the US goes head-to-head with Deutschland (and they probably will), this is the place to be.

Joxer Daly’s

Culver City

Forty years and still kicking, but recently renovated with screens for days, an exceedingly welcoming staff and a consistent crowd of jovial footy supporters representing a variety of European clubs. Quality wings, a pool table and the occasional post-game karaoke night should sweeten the deal as well.

The Greyhound

Highland Park

The official home of LA’s Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Club, The Greyhound boasts a great menu of elevated bar food (20+ wing sauce options, for anyone counting), a collection of taps presided over by vets of Father’s Office and some very respectable cocktails to boot — a good solid neighborhood bar stacked with fans and lacking pretense.

Cock ‘N’ Bull

Santa Monica

Owned by a Liverpool native, this longtime Brit boozer on Lincoln Blvd is (allegedly) the first pub in the states to show live English soccer, all the way back in 1990. Once voted best soccer bar in the USA by Fox Soccer Channel, CNB packs out big for major matches — if you’re looking to enjoy some fish and chips and a cold pint in the company of the maximum number of fellow football supporters possible, this is your spot.

The Village Idiot

West Hollywood

During last summer’s World Cup, the crowds of unsurprisingly attractive West Hollywood soccer aficionados at this beloved Melrose gastropub grew so great that they spilled outdoors, with many fans catching the action on the bar’s wall-sized screen from the sidewalk outside. No shocker considering Village Idiot has inarguably the best food of any spot on this list, especially for brunch — your early game go-to.
