The box offices this summer have been pretty dismal but Stephen King’s IT is here to save the day — and scare the daylights out of you.
According to Hollywood Reporter, if the prerelease tracking information is correct, the release opening could be between $65 million to $75 million domestically. Insiders at Warner Bros. are taking the movie’s R-rating into consideration and giving a slightly more conservative estimate of $60 million to $65 million.
IT follows a demonic clown named Pennywise, as he terrorizes the small town of Derry, Maine, and the small group of misfit children, dubbed the Loser’s Club, who fight back. The film is directed by Andy Muschietti.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Hotel Tranylvania currently holds the best September opening, with sales of $48.5 million.
Home Again, starring Reese Witherspoon, is also debuting in September, and is on track to make about $10 million for Open Road Films.
