The fallout from the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal continues, and now actor Kevin Spacey has been alleged to have sexually assaulted Star Trek: Discovery’s Anthony Rapp when Rapp was 14. In response, Spacey has apologized for “inappropriate behavior” and said that the allegations had encouraged him to “address other things about my life,” BuzzFeed reports.
In a statement posted to Twitter, Spacey who is very protective of his privacy, wrote: “As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life and I choose now to live as a gay man. …I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior.”
Spacey expressed contrition to Rapp, and said that he is “beyond horrified” to hear that he allegedly sexually assaulted Rapp in his bedroom at the end of a party at Spacey’s apartment.
“I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years,” Spacey wrote.

Many have speculated about Spacey’s sexual orientation. A 1997 Esquire cover story strongly implied Spacey is gay, but then he denied it in a Playboy interview soon after. In 2010, he told The Daily Beast that talking about his sexuality was “a line I’ve never crossed and never will. … No one’s personal life is in the public interest. It’s gossip, bottom line. End of story.”
According to Rapp, Spacey invited the teen to his apartment for a party. At the end of the night, after everyone else had left, Rapp said Spacey picked him up and placed him on his bed, climbed on top of him, and made a sexual advance. Spacey was 26 at the time and Rapp was 14.
Former news anchor Heather Unruh also accused Spacey of assault recently, BuzzFeed reports. She tweeted: “The #weinsteinscandal has emboldened me … I was a Kevin Spacey fan until he assaulted a loved one. Time the dominoes fell.”
