Warner Bros.’s Justice League launched in nine overseas markets, making $8.5 million on Wednesday, reports Variety

Brazil had the biggest opening day of all time, with $3.7 million at 1,509 screens on its Republic Day holiday, with a 74 percent box office share of the top five films. That is the industry’s widest release ever in that market, Variety reports.

South Korea meanwhile generated $1.1 million on 1,195 screens in previews and took 50 percent share of the top five films in the market. Meanwhile, France also saw $1.1 million in first-day grosses on 687 screens. This puts it 19 percent ahead of Wonder Woman. Indonesia opened on 888 screens, making $895,000, which beat out Thor: Ragnarok by eight percent, in the highest opening for a Warner Bros. title, reports Variety.

Thirty-eight markets open Thursday, including Germany, Italy, Russia, Korea, and Australia. The United States debut is on Friday, and it is predicted to have an opening weekend of $110 million at 4,040 locations, according to Variety.

Justice League supposedly cost $300 million to make, so stakes are high for Warner Bros. The movie is the fifth installment of its DC Extended Universe. It stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Amber Heard and more.
