Novels about spies offer readers a chance to live vicariously. The protagonists of these books travel the globe, immersing themselves in situations most people would never dream of. Admittedly, there are also occupational hazards that come with the profession, but it’s not hard to see why so many people have been drawn to stories of jet-setting spies over the years.
While living like a famous fictional spy could be a little tricky for most people, living like the creator of a famous spy could be a little more aspirational. You can, for instance, now stay at a villa at GoldenEye, Ian Fleming’s Jamaica estate. And if you’re looking for something a little closer to home, a penthouse once owned by another notable contributor to the world of spy fiction will soon be sold at auction.
The writer in question? Tom Clancy, whose character Jack Ryan featured prominently in a host of novels, a number of films and a streaming series. An article at TopTenRealEstateDeals.com details the history of Clancy’s Baltimore penthouse, which boasts excellent waterfront views, among other amenities.
Located in the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Clancy’s former home (the author died in 2013) was assembled from a trio of penthouse units. The process took two years and cost “upwards of $15 million,” according to the article. All told, it’s 12,000 square feet in size, with four balconies, two offices and four bathrooms.
