Is there a better pairing than the all-new 2020 Land Rover Defender and the new James Bond movie No Time To Die? One is a British icon last seen in 2016, the other a British icon last seen in, uh, 2015. Plenty of rumors have circulated about the film in recent months, but the highly anticipated SUV has been kept under wraps, until now.
A leaked image making the rounds on social media shows the 2020 Defender without camouflage for the first time. Not only that, but the photo in question was supposedly taken on the set of No Time To Die, which would mean the spy and the SUV will be making their comeback together.
Carscoops, and other automotive publications, cite a post from Instagram user @shedlocktwothousand, who writes, “Here is what looks like the first uncovered #defender2020 — straight (apparently) from the film set of the new #bond movie!”
The user goes on to comment about the design, but Carscoops points out the obvious, writing, “It reveals that the vehicle looks drastically different than the previous-generation Defender and has a design more reflective of current Range Rover models.” That might be disappointing to some people who were hoping for a return to boxy form akin to classic 90 and 110 models of the 4×4, but if you’ve been paying attention to the buildup at all, it’s been clear from the beginning Land Rover wasn’t going to do that.
While the new Bond flick won’t be out until April of next year, the Defender will be officially unveiled in two weeks at September’s IAA, the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. So we’ll see soon enough how close this is to the one we’ll be able to purchase stateside come 2020.
