No, really.

Make a baby, win a free stay. Normal!

There are a lot of things you could do on Valentine’s Day. One of them is conceive a child, which a hotel in Canada inexplicably wants to reward you for doing on their property.

Hotel Zed, a British Columbia-based hotel chain with locations in Victoria and Kelowna, is offering the bizarre Valentine’s Day baby-making promo as part of their holiday “Nooner” special, CNN reported. To celebrate the holiday, the hotel chain is offering couples a not-at-all eyebrow-raising four-hour midday stay — you know, for sex. It’s a five-year tradition for the company, but this year they decided to make things a little weirder for everyone by also offering to reward any couple who ostensibly conceives a child during their midday romp at the hotel with a free stay at the Hotel Zed of their choice … for the next 18 years.

“I don’t think we’re going to convince someone who’s not thinking about having a baby to have a baby. But if you’re serious about expanding your family, why wouldn’t you try?” said Hotel Zed CEO Mandy Farmer. “If you succeed, you’ll win a way to celebrate your baby’s conception for the next 18 years.”

This raises several questions. Why 18 years? Is it universally accepted etiquette that you stop celebrating your child’s conception after they start college? More importantly, is celebrating your kid’s conception a thing that people actually do? Does the child know that’s what’s happening every year? Is this what’s going on in Canada?

Fortunately, physically making a child isn’t the only way to capitalize on the promo. Because Hotel Zed prides itself on fostering a sex-positive and LGBTQ-friendly environment, the promotion isn’t limited to couples who biologically conceive on the premises. Apparently, all you have to do to win 18 years of free stays at Hotel Zed is welcome a child into your life by any means — whether via childbirth, adoption, surrogacy etc. — within 9 months of your afternoon Valentine’s Day stay.
