After being shopped around for nine months, Mad Men has a new home: the streaming rights to the beloved 1960s advertising drama have been purchased by Amazon and AMC.
AMC, the network that originally aired Mad Men‘s seven seasons, and Amazon will reportedly share domestic SVOD rights to the series. All seven seasons will stream domestically on the Amazon-owned free streaming service IMDb TV beginning on July 15, and as The Hollywood Reporter notes, “AMC will have the series in the fall in a deal that also includes linear syndication rights as the basic cable network looks to bolster its roster after the novel coronavirus is expected to wipe out a number of scripted series that were earmarked for 2020.”
Amazon’s Prime Video will also have international streaming rights to the series in Europe, Australia, Latin America and more effective July 3. In addition to re-airing episodes on its networks, AMC will stream the episodes on a variety of platforms.
“Mad Men launched on AMC in 2007 and became the definition of ‘talked-about-television’ — and for our company began a period of distinction and impact that continues to this day,” AMC COO Ed Carroll said in a statement. “We are so pleased to bring Mad Men home to AMC, and again be able to share these unforgettable characters and this nuanced and exceptional storytelling with fans, new and old, on a variety of platforms starting this fall.”
