Give our frontline workers thanks and donations. And intimate Dave Grohl performances, if that’s what they want.
On Monday night, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel brought ER nurse (and COVID-19 survivor) T.J. Riley on his currently at-home “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to give thanks … and surprise him with a musical performance from Dave Grohl.
Riley, who works out of the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, was honored by the show as the “Health Care Worker of the Week.” He noted that on a normal week he’d be subject to patients with machete or gunshot wounds; while those injuries are down, Riley did say that even the surgeons in the hospital are now treating COVID-19 patients. As well, he estimates 60 percent of the Jacobi staff contracted coronavirus at some point.
But the good news is that Riley, who’s now recovered (along with his parents and husband) was able to meet and talk to one of his musical idols, along with scoring $10,000 and gift packs for his fellow ER team.
“I feel like I’m having a coronavirus dream,” Riley said right after being introduced to the Foo Fighters frontman. Grohl then performed an acoustic take on his band’s alt-rock hit “Everlong.”
It’s not the first time we’ve seen Grohl recently; a few days earlier, the singer and Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins joined Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, Rita Ora and others on an all-star rendition of the Foo Fighters song “Times Like These.” He’s also been sharing “true short stories” on Instagram to pass the time during quarantine.
