For UFO aficionados, 2020 is shaping up to be a seismically important year. In April, the Navy formally released footage of pilots encountering aircraft that looked and behaved like nothing else out there — aircraft that were, literally, unidentified flying objects. And last month, the Pentagon announced that it would be revealing even more previously classified information about UFOs. If you’ve long believed that the truth is out there, well, this might just be the year that you find out whether or not you’re right.
As it turns out, the US government has even more plans in the works regarding UFOs. A new article at The Guardian details the Department of Defense’s planned task force on “unidentified aerial phenomena,” which was just formed. According to the report, the task force is less a significant shift in priorities from the Defense Department, and is instead a renewed emphasis on certain issues:
The Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF) was created by the deputy defense secretary, David Norquist, on 4 August, strengthening an already existing effort that since 2018 has been under the purview of the Office of Naval Intelligence.
According to a Pentagon statement, the objective of this new task force relates to national defense. “The mission of the task force is to detect, analyze and catalog UAPs that could potentially pose a threat to US national security,” said the Pentagon via a statement. The implications of this are stark — but they also might unveil an abundance of other secrets, waiting to be brought to light.
