Scientists have bestowed a new status on legendary Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury: the greatest singer- ever.
Czech and Swedish voice researchers Christian T. Herbst Stellan Hertegard, Daniel Zangger-Borch and Per-Åke Lindestad claim the famed frontman has a different, amazing, vibrato than that of opera singers, Maxim reported.
What is vibrato? Vibrato is the sound produced by the voice that is above and below the tone. It is a steady pulse created by a natural muscle reaction to air flowing through the singer’s throat.
An opera singer’s vibrato tone sits at 5.5 to 5.6Hz while Mercury’s vibrato tone was much higher- about 7Hz. Unlike opera singers, Mercury had a signature irregularity, or a “vocal footprint” n his voice, one which has never been replicated elsewhere.
For the famous singer’s biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, now in theaters, it’s no wonder the star, Rami Malek, opted out of singing along to the late rocker’s music. No one will ever sound like Freddie Mercury.
