Sion Jair is a 68-year-old UK man living with Alzheimer’s, and he climbs a mountain every day, sometimes twice. According to a profile in The Guardian, Jair climbs the Old Man of Coniston, his favorite mountain, every day as a means both of getting exercise, which he believes helps him fight Alzheimer’s, and as a means of practicing something familiar. Jair, who has spent his life outdoors and believes he’s climbed every mountain in the country, has battled several serious diseases over the course of his adult life and has used intense exercise as a tool for healing every time. Although Jair’s Alzheimer’s is incurable, his doctors have agreed that his exercise regimen and his dedication to his routine are meaningful ways of combating the disease.
